Tom Jaenicke
Propane Specialist
Tom’s retail propane career took him from bobtail to board room in a retail career that spanned over 30 years. In the beginning Tom’s farming and skilled trades background made him well suited to propane delivery and service technician duties for a large independently owned propane company in Michigan. After four years working in the field, he took over the management position of a retail branch location in Northern Michigan and never slowed down from that point on. Ownership changes over the years brought Tom to senior management positions in the propane divisions of Marathon Oil, MAPCO, Williams Energy, and Ferrellgas. Tom’s propane operations, and sales and marketing management responsibilities spanned the U.S.
Along the way Tom took time to cultivate his passion for propane appliances and their gallon-growth potential by putting a team together to establish a wholesale propane appliance and equipment distribution company, NRG Distributors, serving retailers throughout the Midwest.
His exceptional dedication to industry volunteerism meant Jaenicke was involved in notable national initiatives over the years. He chaired the Propane Education & Research Council’s first consumer education advisory committee, which formed the “Energy Guys” marketing campaign and he served as a Council member. Tom currently serves on the National Propane Gas Association’s Board of Directors and Executive Committee, in addition to Chairing the Services Section and serving on the Convention Committee and Governmental Affairs Committee.
In 2005, after more than three decades of experience in the retail propane business, Jaenicke started his own energy consulting company, ATomiK Creative Solutions.
The company serves as a platform for his advisory work with U.S. and International energy retailers, organizations like the Propane Education & Research Council, the National Propane Gas Association, state and regional propane associations, and other affiliated organizations in the energy and construction industries. As President and Principal Advisor at ATomiK, Tom is able to leverage his experience and the contacts he has made over the years to help clients solve their issues, no matter how complex the problems seem to be.
Some of Tom’s marketing work is based on his association with Warm Thoughts Communications, a Breakthrough marketing group dedicated to the energy industry. His business development work is often handled through his affiliation with Blue Peak Resources, a consulting firm specializing in propane and fuel oil mergers and acquisitions. Tom also finds time to be the Executive Director of the Renewable Propane Alliance, an organization taking a world view of the expansion of the U.S. marketplace for renewable liquid gases.
A recognized subject matter expert on energy efficiency and sustainability, Tom writes for a range of energy industry publications, including LP Gas magazine.
